Scarlett is a London based artist working with paintings and drawings. She graduated with First Class Honours from Goldsmiths University, studying Fine Art and History of Art.
Scarlett’s work is often driven by memories of nature and the space they fill. For her the images of nature that are formed in memory feel like they are in a different realm, there is a sensation of their reality that can’t be replicated in the now. In her work, Scarlett spends time trying to find the lines that make up these images.
Most of Scarlett's current work focuses on a Silver Birch that devastatingly fell in January 2024 in her family home’s garden. She describes the tree as having been slowly dying most of her life but still having the strength to grow leaves across one branch every year while knotted up with dead parts of Ivy that ones suffocated it. For Scarlett, this tree became a symbol of home and felt protective. The silver birch tree has a history of being believed to be a protective force and throughout Celtic mythology is linked with feminine energy. This tree is the subject of her current project, a series of paintings dedicated to the memory of this birch and how her tenderness and emotional loss that surrounds it has adapted the image of its reality in her mind.
